Old Town

Park City, a town located in both Summit and Wasatch County, is considered part of the Wasatch Back, and has been called the best-preserved mining town in the West. After the discovery of silver in 1868, this small mining camp grew into a rough and tumble boomtown where miners, gamblers, merchants, saloon keepers and ladies of the evening from almost every country put Park City on the world map. After the city’s 1884 incorporation, mining flourished until the 1930s, gradually declining into the 1960s. The now Park City Mountain Resort saved the city from almost becoming a ghost town and the resort is now connected to Main Street via the Town Lift. Its full time residents number approximately 8,000, but the tourist population exceeds 60,000 per year.. Old Town Park City has rebounded as a hot spot and brings in over $500 million to the Utah economy.
 
 
Present day Historic Main street is renowned for its great restaurants, art galleries, shopping and a mixture of restored historic building and complementary new construction.  Old Town has a unique blend of restored historic homes and new homes of similar scale.  It is the center of visitor activity with a unique personality that keeps the flavor of its past.  The old-time mining town is still apparent, even if you have to look past movie stars, nightlife and art galleries to find it.
